Chapter 16 Test Block 2 2/20 & 2/21/18 Take about 10 minutes to look over your materials and prepare. You need a PEN!

Bellwork: Block 2 Use what you learned about in the eighteenth- and nineteeth-century political revolutions in Chapter 16 to show the connections between five events from “A Map of Time” and the political revolutions. Pg. 829 The beginning of the British Industrial Revolution occurred as the American Revolution was ending, which affected British industrialization, as the factories no longer had easy access to cotton from the southern United States. The Reform Bill gave middle-class men the right to vote as the 1830s revolutions spread across Europe, with more people (such as the middle-class) asking for more political rights. The end of the independence movements in Latin America led to the beginning of railroad building in Argentina, Cuba, Chile, and Brazil as the newly independent states began to build up their infrastructure and industry.

Period 5: Global Interactions, c. 1750 – c. 1900 C.E. 5.1 Industrialization fundamentally changed how goods were produced. Causes of the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution spread from Britain to other parts of Europe and the United State, Russia, Japan, and Latin America. New consumer markets developed. Trans-national businesses arose. Workers organized themselves into new social classes, gender roles, and labor groups. Opposition to capitalism arose, and alternative visions of society and politics developed.

Period 5: Global Interactions, c. 1750 – c. 1900 C.E. 5.4 Global Migration As a result of political, social, and economic effects of the Industrial Revolution, migration patterns changed dramatically and the numbers of migrants increased significantly.

Remember that human interactions with the environment are always important subjects in this course and are fair game for AP exam questions. Takes notes on this excellent summary of the first and second Industrial Revolutions. (page 830) As always in world history, when a process “goes global” like the Industrial Revolution, pay attention to the social, economic, and political consequences. Government tax policies are an important continuity since the earliest days of civilization. AP Exam Tips Pay close attention to this explanation of the significance of the Industrial Revolution. (starting at the bottom of page 827-828) Look closely at the Map of Time on page 829 and notice connections between the Industrial Revolution and political revolutions of this era.
