Ramla Gabriel, Digital Skills Manager Faculty of Medical Sciences Our demonstrators are an essential part of the teaching team providing academic IT skills to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Medical Sciences. We rely on our postgraduate demonstrators to deliver high quality teaching to thousands of students each year

What is the teaching? We use online tutorials to teach academic IT Skills. Mostly… Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel Microsoft PowerPoint Coming Soon… LaTeX Matlab ChemDraw and more… Academic IT skills Word Excel PowerPoint All UG and PG students in FMS, PG in SAgE 450+ hours annually Online tutorials Led by a qualified teacher Problem-based, student-led approach Learning linked to assessment

What’s involved? Working in a team of up to 5 with the session lead (faculty). In the computer clusters. Most sessions last for 2 hours. Sessions are allocated evenly across the team of ~15 postgraduate demonstrators (aka dems). Up to 90 students. 2-6 hours per month. Each week is different. Sessions are allocated according to availability. Payment month in arrears. Responsibilities of a Demonstrator Prepare thoroughly. Answer student queries. Seek advice and guidance from other members of the teaching team. Frequent reflective practice following each teaching session.
