GHS Literacy Day Literacy Day is an opportunity for all GHS students to read a book of their choosing and begin a project about their book. Students will have the chance to pick their own book and discuss the book in small groups. Make your selection and enjoy!

You will receive your book of choice during registration this summer. Literacy Day is Friday, Sept. 3rd.

10th – 12th Grade Choice #1 When a campaign of gossip and bullying causes high school freshman Haley to be socially ostracized, she spends the summer living with her aunt, working at a resort , and making new friends, while learning how to stand up for herself. Will she ever be able to trust again? Will she have the guts to stand up for herself? Contemporary Fiction

10th – 12th Grade Choice #2 Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen becomes a contender in the annual Hunger Games, a grave competition where young boys and girls are pitted against one another in a televised fight to the death. How can a competitive teenager be persuaded to participate in an all-or-nothing battle? Science Fiction

10th – 12th Grade Choice #4 Robin “Birdy” Perry, a new army recruit from Harlem, is not quite sure why he enlisted, but he’s sure where he’s headed: Iraq. Caught in the cross fire of a conflict, a country, and a culture he doesn’t understand, Birdy soon finds that “winning” sometimes becomes just surviving – and that hero is a complicated word. Will Birdy survive with his mind and spirit intact? Will he be able to live with himself and his actions? Contemporary/Historical Fiction

Will the dynamic duo safely return to Camp Half-Blood? Science Fiction/ Mythology
