PWHS Parent Meeting uswnt highlights 2017 Season video

Coaching Staff: Eric Liebergen Sean O’Brien Cassie Braam Ryan Cowen

This is for everybody: Players, parents, and coaches 3 C’s for our soccer program: We control our attitudes. We are competent of the values from sports. We are connected with others. This is for everybody: Players, parents, and coaches

Parents’ commitment level should meet (not exceed) their daughter’s. one word answers, disinterest in the conversation, body language---these all tell parent that they aren’t on same commitment level, back off.

EXAMPLES OF CONTROL LED BY PARENTS Before events: “Have fun. Thank your coaches.” After events: Hi, did you have fun?” “I love to watch you play,”. (Which we do!) Reminds us all that we are in control of our attitude. others’ attitudes do not need to put us in bad moods. Compartmentalize.

LET YOUR DAUGHTER BE IN CONTROL OF HER PROBLEMS If your daughter is frustrated, listen and say, “Tell me more.” Ask, “So what do you think about that?” “Is there something I can do to help?” “Are you going to bring this up with person involved, or are you venting? Thanks for sharing, keep me posted.”

CONNECTIONS AS PARENTS Remind your daughter that, “You are so much more important to me than your achievements.” Reflect on your relationships with the other parents, opponents, coaches, and officials. parents are constantly modeling behavior -- do we talk about other parents? second guess the coach? complain about the refs? Do we show respect of the opponent, the game, the coaches, teammates?

CONNECTIONS AS FANS Avoid cheering your daughter’s name regularly. Team comes first and “there is no I in team.” Cheering for just your daughter implies team is secondary.

CONNECTIONS

COMPETENCE Character traits of hard work, motivation, humility, respect, and honesty help achieve sports goals. We need to recognize these traits regularly. confidence and success often follow for athletes that have these traits.

COMPETENCE OF VALUES IN SPORTS Colin Cowherd and supporting daughter in soccer Big believer in life with attitude, and ambition, and drive. You’ll never be great unless you change your attitude. Praise effort, praise hustle. We want kids to work hard. Don’t let them get too high on their horse and don’t let them lose their self-esteem.

“We play for each other. We are a sisterhood “We play for each other. We are a sisterhood.” --2017 PWHS Leadership Council Cassy, Molly, Meghan, McKenna, Brooke, Katie, Lyndie, Payton. Thank you! Dedication, communication, respect, selflessness, pride

Takeaways Parents are an extension of our team. We control our attitudes, and they are contagious. character traits are valued: commitment, humility, determination, and SISTERHOOD. We strive to connect & respect all-- the players, the coaches, parents, the officials.
