Presentation transcript:

House Bill 5 Community Engagement Survey DEAC April 2017

Background In 2013, HB 5 included a Community Engagement Component with the goal to allow districts to showcase areas of excellence and success as well as recognize areas in need of improvement and set future goals that are valued in the community. The law requires each district to evaluate and designate a performance rating for the district and each campus based on locally developed criteria. The ratings are exemplary, recognized, acceptable, or unacceptable

The Nine Factors Fine arts Wellness and physical education Community and parental involvement 21st century workforce development program 2nd language acquisition program Digital learning environment Dropout prevention strategies Educational programs for GT students Compliance with statutory reporting and policy requirements.

Few changes we’ve made because of this survey Fine Arts- Music at Howard added for 2016-2017 school year Tracking the number of parents at all BTS nights Tracking the number of elementary parent conferences Added language proficiency assessment to measure outcomes of SI and DL Tracking attendance at summer school Updating surveys for parents, faculty, and students for 17-18 Increased # of GT and ESL certified teachers

New for 2016-2017 Wellness Digital Citizenship Community Engagement

Work Time Divide into 3 groups (Count off 1,2,3…) Each group has a packet with three factors from last year Read over the information. Add notes where more information is needed Add notes for components we could consider including for this year or future years

EXAMPLE What is meant by LOTI? Where can we include information about Engaged Classrooms? Could we track the number of devices on a campus compared to number of students?
