Huntsville City Schools AdvancEd Engagement Review Report for Accreditation February 1, 2018

Accreditation Review HCS undergoes an accreditation review through AdvancED every 5 years AdvancED review team was here Nov. 12-15 Team meet with the superintendent, board members, directors, principals, teachers, students, parents, and observed classes at about half the schools The review team recommends to the AdvancED Accreditation Commission that Huntsville City Schools earns the distinction of accreditation for a five-year term.

Accreditation Review Based on interviews and classroom observations, the review team rated HCS the highest in the areas of Having well-managed learning environments Providing supportive learning environments Creating equitable learning environments for all students Setting an environment of high expectations for all students The team also noted strong leadership and learning capacity in HCS

Accreditation Review The review team recommended several improvement priorities Up-to-date continuous improvement process Ensure governing board meets the roles and responsibilities of their positions to best serve HCS Support teachers by providing and implementing systematic instructional best practices Develop and implement a formalized process for long-term advising and mentoring Develop long-term plan for resource management

Accreditation Review HCS has 2 years to develop and implement a plan to address the recommended improvement priorities Dr. Akin has determined several priorities to help address the review and address the needs of HCS: Recruit and retain teachers Develop more collaborative leadership Determine academic needs through an instructional audit
