The Trampoline at the Olympics – areas involved Can you think of something in the classroom that has approximately the same dimensions as the jumping zone? At Rio 2016, the women’s individual trampoline gold medal was won by Rosie MacLennon of Canada with a score of 56.465, with Bryony Page gaining a silver, Team GB’s first ever medal in the event, with a score of 56.040. Estimate (by rounding dimensions) the area of the trampoline and the area of the jumping zone. To the left is a diagram showing the dimensions of the trampoline, and the dimensions of the area that the gymnasts can jump in. area rectangle = length x width A classroom door is also approximately 1 m wide and 2 m high. area trampoline ≈ 4 m x 3 m = 12 m2 area jumping zone ≈ 2 m x 1 m = 2 m2
