Lamar High School PGPs & Endorsements

We are here tonight to discuss: the importance of a High School graduation plan that includes the Distinguished Level of Achievement and one or more Endorsements, the importance of Post-Secondary Education, automatic college admission, and eligibility for financial aid. This year, every student must have a PGP on file that is signed by the student and a parent. House Bill 5 2014-15

Most of the very best jobs require education and training beyond high school Prepare now for post-secondary education The Distinguished Level of Achievement will ensure the best preparation for your future. More math and science Allows you to compete for Top 10% (7% or 6%) automatic admissions eligibility at any Texas public university Positions eligible students for TEXAS Grant*and other financial aid to help pay for college The Distinguished Level of Achievement is achieved by earning and additional 4.0 credits in a coherent sequence of courses. What does that mean?

House Bill 5 is a Tiered Cake 3 4 5 Do you need the icing and the cherries to get into the college of your choice? No. All you need is the cake. 2 Distinguished Level of Achievement + 4 for 1 Endorsement = 26 credits Foundation Plan = 22 credits

Lamar offers many pathways, but all pathways lead to 1 of 5 endorsements: Business & Industry, STEM, Public Service, Arts & Humanities, or Multidisciplinary House Bill 5 @2014 -15 Class of 2018 first class to graduate with Endorsements Still do not know the value of Endorsements Uniquely Texas Colleges still look to rigor, rank, gpa, & extracurriculars Lamar graduates with the Multidisciplinary Endorsement were accepted into the the Business and Engineering programs at UT and A&M But there may come a time when colleges consider Endorsements for Admission. HISD wants to be prepared! Sci SLx2 or Sci HL 4 years of LOTE

Multidisciplinary STEM Arts & Humanities Business & Industry Public Services Everyone pursues the Multidisciplinary Endorsement REALITY CHECK There are only so many hours in the school day. You cannot be a 2 period athlete for 4 years & earn 5 endorsements. But you need only 1 endorsement. Colleges recognize that student athletes are well rounded applicants. So follow your passion!
