Epic Appointment Scheduling Referrals In this lesson you will learn: ─ How to edit an incorrectly entered referral ─ The Point of Service Warning Signs
Referrals– Editing a Referral Entered Incorrectly You cannot “delete” a referral that was entered incorrectly. A workflow preventing the incorrect referral from displaying in the Referral table has been devised for this purpose. If for some reason, the wrong patient was selected for the referral entry and is completed before you discover the error, the only way to prevent additional errors is to eliminate the incorrect referral from the display table
Referrals– Editing a Referral Entered Incorrectly Referrals entered on the wrong patient should be edited using the following steps: Select the patient you entered the wrong referral on. Select the incorrect referral from the referral table. Click the Edit button. Change the status of the referral to Cancelled. Edit the Start and Expiration Date to 366 days in the past of the current date (i.e., 070712). Click the Add button to enter a Referral Note Note Type: General Add free text comment: Referral entered on the wrong patient Click the Accept button
Referrals– Editing a Referral Entered Incorrectly Editing the referral using these steps will help to identify the referral entry error. The incorrect referral will not display in the table because it will be outside the date range of displayed referrals. You should edit the summary field or enter the statement “REFERRAL ENTERED ON WRONG PATIENT” to clearly identify the note.
