Presidential Research/HW Your HW/Research will consist of the following Read the chapter pertaining to your president from TCI JFK – Chapter 47 LBJ – 48 Nixon – 53 Answer the questions pertaining to your president (they can be found on the website) Be prepared to discuss with your group tomorrow and as a class Understand that the foundation for what happens in Vietnam is laid out by these three presidents, make sure you are thorough in your research so you and the rest of you group understands who they are Tomorrow you will fill out the questionnaire for the other two presidents that you did not research You may need to research in other locations to answer your questions

JFK Questions What are significant factors about Kennedy when he became president? – consider age, family, religion What was his plan to get a “sluggish” economy moving again? What was the “New Frontier?” Why might Kennedy have been extra cautious when dealing with the Civil Rights Movement? What is the Peace Corps, how does Kennedy aim to help “Developing Countries?” What was Kennedy’s relationship with Marilyn Monroe, why is this significant? How successful was Kennedy at implementing his foreign and domestic policies? Why is Kennedy so revered by so many people from his age?

LBJ Questions What was LBJ’s views on politics, what was the “Great Society?” What impact did LBJ have on race issues and poverty in America? Explain the immigration act of 1965? What kind of impact did LBJ have on environmentalism in the US, be specific and detailed? Make sure you cover Silent Spring’s impact Different acts that were put in place during his presidency that protected the environment Explain the “Warren Court,” what it was, who was involved etc., be sure to include the following items… Reappointment Establishment Clause Rights of the Accused
