Should Christians Observe the Sabbath? 2/22/2019

The Issue Is Not: Whether Sunday Is the Sabbath Whether Sunday Was a Day of Pagan Worship WHERE DID GOD COMMAND CHRISTIANS TO KEEP THE SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK AS A HOLY DAY? 2/22/2019

The Roman Catholics: “You may read from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify. (James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of Our Fathers, 16th Ed., 1880, p. 111) 2/22/2019

The Roman Catholics: “If the Bible is the only guide for the Christian, then the Seventh-day Adventist is right in observing the Saturday with the Jew. But Catholics learn what to believe and do from the divine, infallible authority established by Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church…It is not strange that those who make the Bible their only teacher should inconsistently follow in this matter the tradition of the church.” (The Question Box, Conway, 1903 Edition, pp. 254-255.) 2/22/2019

Roman Catholics: “Now where in the Bible do we find that Christ or the apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is, the seventh day of the week, Saturday. Baptist: “There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath was not Sunday…It will be said, however, and with some show of triumph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week…Where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament—absolutely not. There is no scriptural evidence of the change of the Sabbath institution from the seventh to the first day of the week. (Dr. Edward T. Episcopal Church: “Where are we told in Scripture that we are to keep the first day at all? We are commanded to keep the seventh; but we are nowhere commanded to keep the first day…The reason why we keep the first day of the week holy instead of the seventh is for the same reason that we observe many other things, not because of the Bible, but because the church has enjoined it.” 2/22/2019

Methodist Church: “This “handwriting of ordinances” our Lord did blot out, take away, and nail to the His cross (Colossians 2:14). THE SABBATH WAS NEVER COMMANDED OF ANY BUT THE PARTICIPATIONS IN THE RELIGION OF ISRAEL GOD’S COVENANTS APPLY TO ONLY THOSE WHO ARE NAMED AS A PARTY TO THEM. THE COVENANT AT SINAI ONLY ONE COVENANT WAS GIVEN AT MOUNT SINAI THE TEN COMMANDMENTS WERE A PART OF THAT ONE COVENANT SABBATH OBSERVANCE WAS A PART OF THE COVENANT THAT GOD MADE WITH ISRAEL OBJECTION: Genesis 2:2-3; proves that God gave the Sabbath as a covenant to all mankind! 2/22/2019

Ten Commandments Repeated in the New Testament: Idolatry is forbidden. (Acts 14:11-15; 1 Thess. 1:9;) Graven images are forbidden (Acts 17; 19; 1 Thess. 1:9;) The use of God’s name in vain is forbidden. (1 Timothy 1:19, 20; 2 Timothy 2:16;) Sabbath keeping is no where commanded in the New Testament. To honor one’s father and mother. (Eph. 6:1-2;) Killing is forbidden (1 Peter 4:15;) Committing adultery is forbidden (1 Cor. 6:9-10;) Stealing is forbidden (Eph. 4:28;) Bearing false witness is forbidden (Col. 3:9;) Coveting is forbidden (Eph. 5:3;) 2/22/2019

The First Day of the Week: Christ arose from the dead on the first day of the week. (Luke 24:1, 13, 21, 46) The church was established on the first day of the week. (Acts 2) The disciples at Troas met on the first day of the week to break bread. (Acts 20:7) Paul gave orders to “lay by in store” on the first day of the week. (1 Cor. 16:1-2) John makes reference to the “Lord’s Day”. (Rev. 1:10) 2/22/2019
