Design and Synthesis of Chiral Nematic Liquid Crystal Twist Agents James A. Rego Department of Chemistry, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona The chiral nematic liquid crystal phase - the typical organic component of LC displays - possesses a supramolecular helical ordering. We have synthesized four new helix-inducing diamide dopants derived from L-amino acids and structurally analogous to Merck S1011. Add twist agent Achiral Nematic Chiral Nematic Helical Twisting Power = 1/p·c·r p = pitch, c = wt.%, r = % e.e. Synthetic efforts toward Amido-ester dopants:
