Team Introduction We are The Antagonists, a name selected to highlight our non-alignment with certain governmental ideas. Our team: Aaron – team leader Austin Dan Don Glenn Mike, and Patrick

What is this Plan For? Installation of new, more powerful, and lower-cost servers. These replace the existing servers.

Application Considerations Applications portfolio Tools for the project Project: Installation of servers Concerns Difficulties in resource allocations How to decide allocation

Systems Operations Definition: consists of running a firms applications according to defined processes. Systems Operations Planning Elements: Service-level Planning Capacity Planning Network Planning

Types of Planning Operational plans cover a period of ~90 days Tactical plans address timeframes ranging from 90 days to 2 years, describing the actions that begin the implementation of strategic plans Strategic plans cover a range of 2 to 5 years and focus on the firms missions, goals, and objectives

Resource Planning The most complicated part of a good plan, resource planning is laid out here in great details. An IT plan describes the critical dependencies on available resources throughout the planning horizon. For example, a summary of the hardware and equipment required to operate the firm's information-processing activities appears in the plan's resource section.

Resource Planning – Contd Resource planning for a complete IT plan of any type establishes the following: 1 Equipment 2 Space 3 Talented people 4 Finances Note: Technology Resources are discussed in a separate section.

Resource Planning: 1) Equipment The resource planning section must include: network equipment – purchased or rented services such as switches, routers dedicated lease lines

Resource Planning: 2) Space When a firm's system operation is growing, space requirements can be substantial, including: housing for the equipment special facilities for running the equipment key facilities such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical power, cabling conduits and cabinets raised floors and/or dropped ceilings uninterruptible power sources (UPS) to ensure reliable service

Resource Planning: 3) Talented People Failing to deploy people who know what theyre doing for the key aspects identified will cause any plan to quickly become fragmented as tasks are missed and/or done incorrectly, ultimately resulting in a complete business disaster. Interviewing candidates on key skills regarding the equipment, as well as their experience is critical for people selection, as are regular employee reviews, feedback/coaching & firing when appropriate.

Resource Planning: 4) Finances Financial obligations consist of equipment purchase and lease costs as well as expenses for third-party services. A complete telecommunication system financial plan integrates equipment and use-charges with software and applications costs. Failing to anticipate future needs without funds will shut the plan down overnight, again ultimately resulting in a complete business disaster.

Summary of Resource Planning Sound planning is critical for success Planning is divided into time periods of differing lengths Plans are only as good as their implementation and control mechanisms Control is a fundamental management responsibility Measurements are key to gauging planning success and deviation

People Plans People management requires Skilled people Good management Must plan for the cost of people resources Salaries Benefits Training costs Have the proper staff Hired Trained Retained

Financial Plans Summarization of All the Costs of Resources Identify specific costs and expenses Timing of the expenditures Once the Financial Plan is Approved a Annual Budget can be Constructed Executives Evaluate IT Management by Comparing Actual Performance to this Planned Performance

Administrative Planning GNATT Chart is used and examined at this stage Incorporation of all departments All Affected Departments - Facilities, Contact Center, etc… New Servers = Potential upgrade software Steering committee would be heavily involved with the planning, communication, training, expectations, fallback plans, and deployment of these low cost servers

Technology Planning This, the last stage in planning, might have been where the idea for the new low-power server may have started. They also would be heavily discussed on what technologies to look at and specifically what models of those technologies. Intel vs AMD Processors, HP, IBM, Dell. Virtualization VMWare vs Microsoft HyperV

IT Planning Summary In conclusion, the presentation covered applications, systems, resources, people, financials, administrative and technology areas to show how each part is critical A plan like this requires versions, with multiple reviews to reach an approval by business leaders. This can take months to complete as well as multiple teams
