Spanish II Señora Bailey Classroom Procedures Spanish II Señora Bailey

Expectations Spanish II is a class that offers opportunities for students to use what they have learned in Spanish I and expand their learning of the language and Latin culture. Students are expected to participate and encourage one another in order to maximize learning for everyone.

Rules Be respectful. Debes ser repetuoso. Be responsible.  Debes ser responsable. Be prepared. Debes estar preparado.

Be respectful. Sé repetuoso. Each students has the right to learn in a calm, encouraging environment. We will speak respectfully to everyone. We will listening respectfully when anyone is speaking or when media is being used in the classroom. We will respect the property and personal space of all students and the teacher.

Be Responsible Sé responsable. Each student is responsible to complete class work and homework. Each student is responsible to keep an organized binder, in order to have notes that may be needed in class. Each student is responsible to work hard, in order to learn as much as possible.

Be prepared Siempre está preparado. Each student should have all learning materials everyday. Each student should have all homework completed when the bell rings . Each student should have materials out, an begin working as soon as the bell rings. Each student should review class notes and vocabulary after each class.

Consequences Warning-Yellow Card Student will be asked to write his/her name on the board and lose Language Practice Grade points. Break Detention and lose more Language Practice Grade points. Write off vocabulary in Spanish and English—signed by parent—lose more LPG points Student will be referred to the office, and I will call a parent or guardian.

Note: We will all seek to follow all the rules and guidelines in the student handbook.

Cell Phones How do you think that cell phones might help us learn Spanish? You may use your cell phone when everyone has permission to do so.   Please put away your cell phone when the bell rings.

Listening You will receive points for participating in these practices in class. All the areas of practice will be worth 100 points a month. These grades will be averaged at the end of the 9 weeks.

Be Prepared to listen Please leave your back packs in the back of the room. Leave your cell phone in backpack, purse, or in my basket. In Seat when bell rings Materials ready to work Begin working with opening activity when the bells rings All Materials:

If you don’t understand what is being said in Spanish: Look to see if it is written on the board. Look to see if I am making signals to help. Look to see what your classmates are doing. After you have done all these things—raise your hand and ask for help. Learn the key phrases.

You cannot be listening if: Therefore you are not earning your listening points for the class period.

End of Class I need to listen to the announcements so: Remain in your near your seats until the bell rings. Do not line up at the door If there are announcements, please be quiet so that we can hear them.

Listening Listen carefully in class to presentations by the teacher to videos to audio activities to sharing by other students in order to help master vocabulary and grammar. Please refrain from talking at these times.

Speaking You will receive points for participating in these practices in class. All the areas of practice will be worth 100 points a month. These grades will be averaged at the end of the 9 weeks.

Speaking Speaking activities may be done with the whole class, small groups or in pairs. Speaking Spanish is a part of your grade.

Speaking Activities include: Pronouncing vocabulary Small group activities—you will be assigned activities to complete and share with the class. Pair activities—activities assigned and then shared. Conversations—including interview with teacher. Asking permission will be done in Spanish, as soon as we practice these phrases. We will have some Flip grid activities that require speaking. These will count as a project.

Key Phrases Necesito Ayuda. ¿Puedo ir al baño? ¿Cuál página? ¿Qué quiere decir ______? ¿Cómo se dice __________ en español?

Language Practice Grade: Reading and Writing You will receive points for completing classwork and homework. All the areas of practice will be worth 100 points a month. Also any graded homework is part of this grade. These grades will be averaged at the end of the 9 weeks.

Reading Can’t read without materials All materials, everyday When you complete a reading assignment, be ready to answer questions about it. Reading is often evaluted by quizzes.

Writing Opening activity—begin as soon as you are settled in room. All Daily work and Homework for each chapter will be taken up and graded at the end of the chapter. Written make-up assignments are in the sorter in the front of the room. If you want the maximum points, then complete all the assignments.

Homework Two or three times a week. Do all homework on same sheet/sheets of paper. Listed for week on board in back of room. I will check to see if complete, then let you make corrections on it. I will take up Homework sheets at the end of the chapter and grade them.

Quizzes 25% of grade (1st Nine weeks) 35% of grade (2nd Nine weeks) May have 2 quizzes each chapter May be asked to spell Spanish vocabulary words on quizzes Make up quizzes outside of class during language lab or before school. Projects count as a quiz grade.

Binder Binder Need to have papers sorted with dividers Needs to be neat and orderly You must be able to locate any paper that I ask you to keep in your binder. Failure to locate papers will deduct from your LPG grade. Graded papers will be kept in your folder.

Binder Sections Repaso A & B Repaso C & D Repaso E-Chapter 7 Chapter 8-Spanish I book Repaso F Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 4 Chapter 5

Tests 25% of grade (1st Nine Weeks) 30% of grade (2nd Nine Weeks) At the end of Repaso A & B, C & D, and the rest of the chapters. Will contain questions to answer in Spanish. One test every 7 to 8 days.

Mid term exam 25% of grade Will be matching and multiple choice from old tests and quizzes.

How to make the best grade possible Participate in class—let it go through your brain. Do your homework every time assigned. Study vocabulary 15 minutes 5 days a week. Ask questions or come for tutoring, if you are having trouble. It is your responsibility to do make up work. Listen for ways to earn extra points on tests or quizzes.

Top Eight Ways to loose points 8. Don’t bring all your materials to class 7. Sleep in class( or appear to do so) 6. Don’t do your classwork or homework 5. Talk while others are talking 4. Do work for another class during a whole group or small group time. 3. Silly or distracting behavior 2. Don’t follow the school rules 1. Disrespect other students or the teacher
