THIS I BELIEVE REVISE AND EDIT

FOCUS & ORGANIZATION ORGANIZATION – what pattern do you use to organize your essay? Chronologically to tell how your belief developed? Compare-Contrast to show how your belief is similar or different from someone else’s? Other? THESIS – this is your belief statement and should be on your cover page. IDEAS throughout the essay should connect to the thesis – the controlling idea – your belief statement. If you start to wander from your belief statement, bring your ideas back to it. TRANSITIONS – these words and phrases should guide the reader from idea to idea and from sentence to sentence and from paragraph to paragraph – if you don’t have transitions, add them!

DEVELOPMENT DETAILS AND EXAMPLES – be specific! CONNECTED – all of your details, examples, experiences, and evidence connect to the thesis and help reader understand what you believe. OVERALL – the essay is insightful and engaging!

CONVENTIONS DICTION AND SYNTAX – that’s your word choice and your sentences TO DO: select at least 3 sentences in your essay and revise using the “Sentence Variation Models”. Underline the new sentence in your google doc and make a comment with which model you changed it to. PROOFREAD for capitalization, spelling, punctuation, and usage erros. Make sure you have used first- person point of view and appropriate verb tenses.

PEER-REVIEW Ask at least two other students to read your essay and give you feedback about what you can revise to make your essay even better. Ask them to focus on a part of the essay or a part of the rubric where you’d like support. Feedback should be as a comment – DO NOT CLICK THE BUTTON TO RESOLVE THEM.

PRINT When you are done revising and editing, peer-review, I will print the cover page and essay for you! Or you may print your cover page yourself if you want it in color. B-DAY DUE BY THURS MAY 18. A-DAY DUE BY FRI MAY 19.
