Tricks to Become a Master Multiplier!! Fast Facts Multiplication Tricks to Become a Master Multiplier!!

What is Multiplication? Repeated Addition 3 x 5 = 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3

Commutative Property of Multiplication It doesn’t matter which number comes first. The answer will be the same. 4 x 3 = 3 x 4 =

Zeros Any number times 0 is 0. Repeated addition says: 4 x 0 = 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 =

Ones Any number times 1 is always itself! The Commutative Property says: 1 x 4 is the same as 4 x 1 Repeated addition says: 1 x 4 = 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4 4 x 1 = 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4

Good News! There are 100 facts to learn. You have already learned 36 of these!!

Better News! There are 64 more multiplication facts. Because of the commutative property, you won’t have to memorize 36 of these! If you memorize 3 x 4, you will already know the answer to 4 x 3. They are the same!!

We’re making progress!

Twos Any number times 2 is that number doubled! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 x 0 0 x 1 0 x 2 0 x 3 0 x 4 0 x 5 0 x 6 0 x 7 0 x 8 0 x 9 1 x 0 1 x 1 1 x 2 1 x 3 1 x 4 1 x 5 1 x 6 1 x 7 1 x 8 1 x 9 2 x 0 2 x 1 2 x 2 2 x 3 2 x 4 2 x 5 2 x 6 2 x 7 2 x 8 2 x 9 3 x 0 3 x 1 3 x 2 3 x 3 3 x 4 3 x 5 3 x 6 3 x 7 3 x 8 4 x 0 4 x 1 4 x 2 4 x 3 4 x 4 4 x 5 4 x 6 4 x 7 4 x 8 4 x 9 5 x 0 5 x 1 5 x 2 5 x 3 5 x 4 5 x 5 5 x 6 5 x 7 5 x 8 5 x 9 6 x 0 6 x 1 6 x 2 6 x 3 6 x 4 6 x 5 6 x 6 6 x 7 6 x 8 6 x 9 7 x 0 7 x 1 7 x 2 7 x 3 7 x 4 7 x 5 7 x 6 7 x 7 7 x 8 7 x 9 8 x 0 8 x 1 8 x 2 8 x 3 8 x 4 8 x 5 8 x 6 8 x 7 8 x 8 8 x 9 9 x 0 9 x 1 9 x 2 9 x 3 9 x 4 9 x 5 9 x 6 9 x 7 9 x 8 9 x 9

Fours The double-double! Double the number you are multiplying twice. 4 x 6 (double 6 twice) 6 doubled is 12, 12 doubled is 24. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 x 0 0 x 1 0 x 2 0 x 3 0 x 4 0 x 5 0 x 6 0 x 7 0 x 8 0 x 9 1 x 0 1 x 1 1 x 2 1 x 3 1 x 4 1 x 5 1 x 6 1 x 7 1 x 8 1 x 9 2 x 0 2 x 1 2 x 2 2 x 3 2 x 4 2 x 5 2 x 6 2 x 7 2 x 8 2 x 9 3 x 0 3 x 1 3 x 2 3 x 3 3 x 4 3 x 5 3 x 6 3 x 7 3 x 8 4 x 0 4 x 1 4 x 2 4 x 3 4 x 4 4 x 5 4 x 6 4 x 7 4 x 8 4 x 9 5 x 0 5 x 1 5 x 2 5 x 3 5 x 4 5 x 5 5 x 6 5 x 7 5 x 8 5 x 9 6 x 0 6 x 1 6 x 2 6 x 3 6 x 4 6 x 5 6 x 6 6 x 7 6 x 8 6 x 9 7 x 0 7 x 1 7 x 2 7 x 3 7 x 4 7 x 5 7 x 6 7 x 7 7 x 8 7 x 9 8 x 0 8 x 1 8 x 2 8 x 3 8 x 4 8 x 5 8 x 6 8 x 7 8 x 8 8 x 9 9 x 0 9 x 1 9 x 2 9 x 3 9 x 4 9 x 5 9 x 6 9 x 7 9 x 8 9 x 9

Fives Count by 5s! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 x 0 0 x 1 0 x 2 0 x 3 0 x 4 0 x 5 0 x 6 0 x 7 0 x 8 0 x 9 1 x 0 1 x 1 1 x 2 1 x 3 1 x 4 1 x 5 1 x 6 1 x 7 1 x 8 1 x 9 2 x 0 2 x 1 2 x 2 2 x 3 2 x 4 2 x 5 2 x 6 2 x 7 2 x 8 2 x 9 3 x 0 3 x 1 3 x 2 3 x 3 3 x 4 3 x 5 3 x 6 3 x 7 3 x 8 4 x 0 4 x 1 4 x 2 4 x 3 4 x 4 4 x 5 4 x 6 4 x 7 4 x 8 4 x 9 5 x 0 5 x 1 5 x 2 5 x 3 5 x 4 5 x 5 5 x 6 5 x 7 5 x 8 5 x 9 6 x 0 6 x 1 6 x 2 6 x 3 6 x 4 6 x 5 6 x 6 6 x 7 6 x 8 6 x 9 7 x 0 7 x 1 7 x 2 7 x 3 7 x 4 7 x 5 7 x 6 7 x 7 7 x 8 7 x 9 8 x 0 8 x 1 8 x 2 8 x 3 8 x 4 8 x 5 8 x 6 8 x 7 8 x 8 8 x 9 9 x 0 9 x 1 9 x 2 9 x 3 9 x 4 9 x 5 9 x 6 9 x 7 9 x 8 9 x 9

Fives, another way If you are multiplying 5 times an EVEN number: Take half of the number Tack a zero on the end! 6 x 5 Take half of 6 = 3 Tack the 0 = 30 If you are multiplying 5 times an ODD number: Subtract 1 from the number Tack a five on the end! 7 x 5 Subtract 1 from 7 = 6 Take half = 3 Tack the 5 = 35

Nines, Method 1 Use your fingers

Nines, Method 1 Bend the number you are multiplying Here is 9 x 4 (the 4th finger is bent) Your first digit in your answer is the number of fingers to the left. The second digit in your answer is the number of fingers to the right.

Nines, Method 2 One less = 9 Method 9 x 5 = Subtract 1 from the # you are multiplying (4) 4 will be your first digit in your answer To find the second digit, add to get 9: 4 + ___ = 9 4 + 5 = 9 So, your answer is 45.

Nines 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 x 0 0 x 1 0 x 2 0 x 3 0 x 4 0 x 5 0 x 6 0 x 7 0 x 8 0 x 9 1 x 0 1 x 1 1 x 2 1 x 3 1 x 4 1 x 5 1 x 6 1 x 7 1 x 8 1 x 9 2 x 0 2 x 1 2 x 2 2 x 3 2 x 4 2 x 5 2 x 6 2 x 7 2 x 8 2 x 9 3 x 0 3 x 1 3 x 2 3 x 3 3 x 4 3 x 5 3 x 6 3 x 7 3 x 8 4 x 0 4 x 1 4 x 2 4 x 3 4 x 4 4 x 5 4 x 6 4 x 7 4 x 8 4 x 9 5 x 0 5 x 1 5 x 2 5 x 3 5 x 4 5 x 5 5 x 6 5 x 7 5 x 8 5 x 9 6 x 0 6 x 1 6 x 2 6 x 3 6 x 4 6 x 5 6 x 6 6 x 7 6 x 8 6 x 9 7 x 0 7 x 1 7 x 2 7 x 3 7 x 4 7 x 5 7 x 6 7 x 7 7 x 8 7 x 9 8 x 0 8 x 1 8 x 2 8 x 3 8 x 4 8 x 5 8 x 6 8 x 7 8 x 8 8 x 9 9 x 0 9 x 1 9 x 2 9 x 3 9 x 4 9 x 5 9 x 6 9 x 7 9 x 8 9 x 9

Tricks Easy as counting! 12 = 3 x 4 -- One two equals three times four. 56 = 7 x 8 -- Five Six equals seven times eight. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 x 0 0 x 1 0 x 2 0 x 3 0 x 4 0 x 5 0 x 6 0 x 7 0 x 8 0 x 9 1 x 0 1 x 1 1 x 2 1 x 3 1 x 4 1 x 5 1 x 6 1 x 7 1 x 8 1 x 9 2 x 0 2 x 1 2 x 2 2 x 3 2 x 4 2 x 5 2 x 6 2 x 7 2 x 8 2 x 9 3 x 0 3 x 1 3 x 2 3 x 3 3 x 4 3 x 5 3 x 6 3 x 7 3 x 8 4 x 0 4 x 1 4 x 2 4 x 3 4 x 4 4 x 5 4 x 6 4 x 7 4 x 8 4 x 9 5 x 0 5 x 1 5 x 2 5 x 3 5 x 4 5 x 5 5 x 6 5 x 7 5 x 8 5 x 9 6 x 0 6 x 1 6 x 2 6 x 3 6 x 4 6 x 5 6 x 6 6 x 7 6 x 8 6 x 9 7 x 0 7 x 1 7 x 2 7 x 3 7 x 4 7 x 5 7 x 6 7 x 7 7 x 8 7 x 9 8 x 0 8 x 1 8 x 2 8 x 3 8 x 4 8 x 5 8 x 6 8 x 7 8 x 8 8 x 9 9 x 0 9 x 1 9 x 2 9 x 3 9 x 4 9 x 5 9 x 6 9 x 7 9 x 8 9 x 9

The Final Facts 8 x 8 = 64 He ate and he ate and he sticks in the door, eight times eight is sixty-four. Eight times eight fell on the floor, picked it up it's sixty four. 6 x 6 = 36 Six times six equals thirty six (It rhymes) 3 x 3 = 9 Swing from tree to tree on a vine, three times three is the number nine.

Only 6 left to go! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 x 0 0 x 1 0 x 2 0 x 3 0 x 4 0 x 5 0 x 6 0 x 7 0 x 8 0 x 9 1 x 0 1 x 1 1 x 2 1 x 3 1 x 4 1 x 5 1 x 6 1 x 7 1 x 8 1 x 9 2 x 0 2 x 1 2 x 2 2 x 3 2 x 4 2 x 5 2 x 6 2 x 7 2 x 8 2 x 9 3 x 0 3 x 1 3 x 2 3 x 3 3 x 4 3 x 5 3 x 6 3 x 7 3 x 8 4 x 0 4 x 1 4 x 2 4 x 3 4 x 4 4 x 5 4 x 6 4 x 7 4 x 8 4 x 9 5 x 0 5 x 1 5 x 2 5 x 3 5 x 4 5 x 5 5 x 6 5 x 7 5 x 8 5 x 9 6 x 0 6 x 1 6 x 2 6 x 3 6 x 4 6 x 5 6 x 6 6 x 7 6 x 8 6 x 9 7 x 0 7 x 1 7 x 2 7 x 3 7 x 4 7 x 5 7 x 6 7 x 7 7 x 8 7 x 9 8 x 0 8 x 1 8 x 2 8 x 3 8 x 4 8 x 5 8 x 6 8 x 7 8 x 8 8 x 9 9 x 0 9 x 1 9 x 2 9 x 3 9 x 4 9 x 5 9 x 6 9 x 7 9 x 8 9 x 9
