Let’s go kayaking

Picture yourself on vacation in spectacular southeast Alaska, kayaking with a group of friends. You’ve never kayaked before in your life, but you’ve been invited to spend a few days whale watching. It’s the end of July. The weather is warm and the scenery is beautiful, but after a day on the water clouds start to gather as you make camp. Sure enough, rain begins to fall, and it shows no sign of letting up. The clouds get darker, the rain pours down harder, and the wind comes up. The waves pick up and now is when you recognize that you’ve built camp too close to the water. You and your friends dash through the wind and rain for higher ground. When the new day dawns and the sky clears you and your friends are in quite a pickle. You are stranded on a small deserted island and you don’t know how long you will have to be there. The nearest settlement is over 75 miles away. Your task: Survive.

~80 miles as the bird flies

Your group’s job is to: -Figure out a survival strategy -Pick your top three items (you still get to keep and use everything -What will you produce? -How will you make it? -How will you determine who gets it?

Other questions to ponder: -What did you make for shelter? -How did you make it? -Who made it? -What natural resources were used? -What tools were used? -Did everyone get a share of what was produced? -Did the goods produced go only to those who helped to produced them? -Did a leader decide who got what? -Did those who did no work get any of the goods produced? -How were choices made?
