Example 1 Peppermint mocha java chip frappuccino with whip cream on the top and the bottom, blended twice are sold in three sizes. The price of an 12-ounce (Tall) is $3.30. The price of a 16-ounce (Grande) is $3.80. The price of a 20-ounce (Venti) is $4.30. Based on price alone, which drink is the best buy?

Example 1 Answer: Step 1 Find the unit price for each item. Price per Item ÷ Measure or Count 12-ounce : $3.30 ÷ 12 = $0.275 $0.275 × 100 = 27.5¢ per ounce

Example 1 Answer: Step 1 (cont.) 16-ounce : $3.80 ÷ 16 = $0.2375 $0.2375 × 100 =23.75¢ per ounce 20-ounce : $4.30 ÷ 20 = $0.215 $0.215 × 100 = 21.5¢ per ounce

Example 1 Answer: Step 2 Find the best buy. Compare: 27.5¢, 23.75¢, and 21.5¢ per ounce 21.5¢ is the best buy.
