Class Expectations Arrive to class on time; before the last late bell Arrive to class with an appetite to learn Arrive to class prepared Pencil/Pen (NO RED INK) Notebook Laboratory Portfolio Binder (in room) Textbook (in room)

Be Prepared “Organization is the key to success” – martino 06’ How do I become successful?

Be Prepared con’t….

Expectations for Envol. Sci. II Read when you do not have too! When material is taught in class, it is your responsibility to read the corresponding sections in the text. Review when you do not have too! Read over your notes on a daily basis, prior to the start of the class. Study when you do not have too! Go over old material on a nightly basis to keep past concepts fresh in your mind for upcoming quizzes and tests. A champion is made when nobody is watching.

Expectations con’t.. Come to class expecting to accomplish a goal. The words “I can’t.”, “I won’t.”, “I don’t care.”, “I don’t have to” do not exist in this classroom. If you are having a problem, any problem, please see me. Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall. -Confucius

Grading Policy Your overall grade is based on a weighted average of exams, quizzes, homework, lab work and lab quizzes. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ADD ALL THE POINTS EARNED AND DIVIDE BY THE TOTAL POINTS, THIS WILL NOT BE YOUR GRADE.

Grading Policy con’t.. Exams Lab Work Homework/Classwork Exams account for 30% of your overall grade. If you chose to not take an exam during a marking period, the highest average you could earn would be a 70%. We will have at least three exams every marking period, make them count. Lab Work Lab work accounts for 25% of your overall grade. We will have at least one lab per week. (tentative) Homework/Classwork Homework accounts for 20% of your overall grade. You will have weekly homework, at least two assignment per week.

Grading Policy con’t.. Quizzes Lab Quizzes Quizzes account for 20% of your overall grade. Quizzes are given on a weekly, sometimes bi-weekly basis to make sure you are keeping up and understanding the material. Lab Quizzes Lab quizzes account for 5% of your overall grade. Lab quizzes will be given prior to lab investigations; the lab protocol will be provided before so you have the ability to review it over prior to the quiz.

Grading Policy con’t.. Notebook Your notebook will be checked twice a marking period; at the interim and at the end for a quiz grade. Notebooks are checked at the interim and at the end of the marking period for all the notes given during that period of time

Grading Policy con’t.. Attitude and Participation Att/Part will be a 100 point homework assignment. Many factors go into this grade such as: Your willingness to contribute to class discussions Your willingness to answer questions Your willingness to come and seek extra help Your willingness to take advantage of after school and late night study Your willingness to get to class on time Your willingness to not cut my class Your willingness to abide by school regulations such as dress code and behavior Your willingness to be a productive individual at CCHS

Grading Policy con’t..

Grading Policy con’t.. Good News!! Hard Work = Success

Late Work The Policy is…. one day late and that is it.

Oh, you don’t like that?

Like a Boss……

Late Work con’t.. Absences If you are absent the day an assignment is due, you will hand it to me as soon as you return. No questions asked. If you are absent the day of a test and/or quiz, you will take that test and/or quiz the day you come back in. No questions asked. If you are absent during a lab day, try to come in anyway. But, if you decide to stay home, you will have to make it up after school, during a lunch, during a study hall, during another class, during one of my free periods within a timely manner (1 week) or it is a zero. If you are absent for an extended period of time, we will get together when you come back and discuss an appropriate time table for you to complete your assignments.

Oh, you don’t like that either?

Like a Boss……

Finding Percents You will need to know how to determine your grade for every assignment. I do not give percents, I give you points. For Example You receive 30 points out of a possible 40 and it is written in red ink on your laboratory paper like so: 30 40 What is the percent earned?

Finding Percents con’t.. You must do the following: Step 1 30 divided by 40 = .75 Step 2 .75 multiplied by 100 = 75%

Let’s Have a Great Year…
