Presentation transcript:

Mrs. McMorrow Week of: May 2018 May has flown by! We started off with a coding relay race after a week of taking MCAS for the first time. We ended the month with an extra recess on the new playground after our last week of MCAS! We have finally finished Skylark, the sequel to our previous novel, Sarah, Plain and Tall. We have been comparing and contrasting elements such as character, setting, plot, and theme of the stories. We have also reinforced this skill with the stories, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Pickles to Pittsburg! This month, we have focused a lot of lessons on fractions. Students build upon their knowledge of identifying fractions to identifying equivalent fractions and fractions greater than 1 (improper fractions). Students also learned how to find the area and perimeter of a shape! This month, we re-visited the American Revolution. Students completed a timeline identifying important events in the Revolution. Students also read many texts on the topic and identified causes and effects of the war. In Science, we wrapped up Severe Weather Research Projects! We are diving into studying life cycles! Students will compare and contrast life cycles of different plants and animals. The end of the year is coming! If you wish to pass on placement information, please fill out the form attached in the last Principal’s Corner! In writing, we have practiced editing and revising our previous narrative piece about winter. Students also crafted a main event with it! We have brought our Severe Weather research into writing and are beginning to draft expository pieces on our storms.
