Remembering Passover
Good Friday – Day of Preparation Matthew 27:62 The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate Mark 15:42 And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath, Luke 23:54 It was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning John 19:31 Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.
When do we Sacrifice the Passover Lamb? Exodus 12:5-6 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, 6 and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight (Afternoon) Leviticus 23:4-5 4 “These are the appointed feasts of the Lord, the holy convocations, which you shall proclaim at the time appointed for them. 5 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight, is the Lord's Passover.” Numbers 9:1-3 1 And the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying, 2 “Let the people of Israel keep the Passover at its appointed time. 3 On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you shall keep it at its appointed time; according to all its statutes and all its rules you shall keep it.”
When did Jesus lay down His Life? Luke 23:44-46 44 It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour (3pm), 45 while the sun's light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last. Matthew 27:5, 50 5 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. (3pm). 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
Luke 22:15 1 Peter 1:20 Revelation 13:8 15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” 1 Peter 1:20 20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you. Revelation 13:8 8 and all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.
Exodus 1-12 Exodus 12:13 Exodus 12:14 The Plagues on Egypt The blood shall be for a token or sign to you upon [the doorposts of] the houses where you are, [that] when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:14 And this day shall be to you for a memorial. You shall keep it as a feast to the Lord throughout your generations, keep it as an ordinance forever.
Leviticus 17:11 1 Corinthians 11:27-32 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement, by reason of the life. 1 Corinthians 11:27-32 27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died. 31 But if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.
John 13:34-35 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
