What changes a space into a place? A space is a physical location occupied by features such as post offices etc. A place is a space that has been given meaning by people. It could be through personal memories of events or experiences or due to fame and tradition

So, where is YOUR special local place? It could be your local woods…

Or it could be round the corner from you…

...it may be close to home

How do you enter? Take a photo, draw a field sketch or do a painting of your special place in your local area Then write no more than 500 words to describe and explain why your place is so special. Try to use geographical language in your writing.

There are cash prizes for the winners! There will be 4 top prizes of £50

The final stages… The entries will be judged by the competition panel of the Hampshire GA. They will look for geographical understanding in your writing. The winners will be announced at the Spring Conference of the Hampshire Geographical Association on Wednesday 5th March 2014.
