Characters Virgil- The messenger of Beatrice that is sent down to guide Dante through the 9 circles of hell. Dante- The main character that tries to find his way to salvation(Heaven) Pope Anastasius- Dante finds the tomb of Anastasius as a place in the lower hell. He was Pope from 496 to 498. Time of schism between Eastern Greek and Western Roman churches.

Manifestation of the 6th circle of hell The 6th circle of hell is based on those who were very violent, known as the Heretics. Violence and fraud are the major points represented in this circle. Crumbled rocks are presented in circle 6 as a punishment from God when he died. God believes that all man are capable of fraud. God puts this under him and their torment is more painful.

Characters and their relation to their circle Heretics are the people who created violence that are placed in the 6th circle of hell. Pope Anastasius is placed in this circle for the the fight between the Greek and Roman churches. He was persuaded by Photinus to accept the Acacian heresy .

Beasties The beasties that were mentioned in the 6th circle was the misconstructions of Aristotles text involving the classification of “Beastiality.”
