JCHS Academic Information JCHS Handbook Pages 13 – 15 www.jersey100.org (Under Students and Parents)

Class of 2020 Graduation Requirements English 4 Health .5 Math 3 Law/Econ .5 Science 2 PE 2 Gov’t .5 Electives 10.5 US Hist 1 Total 24 credits

Credits = Grade Level You must earn credits to move to a higher grade. 5.5 credits – 10th 9.5 credits – 11th 15 credits – 12th

How Do You Earn Credits? Every semester you will earn .5 credit for every class you pass. 1st and 2nd quarters = 1st Semester 3rd and 4th quarters = 2nd Semester If you have a passing grade for the semester, you will earn .5 credit for that course.

Moving Toward Graduation You must pass all of the required classes to graduate from high school! Passing 2 or 3 quarters of a class will not earn the credit you need. You must pass a semester to earn credit. If you fail a required class, you must re-take it, and you may not be allowed to move to the next level of a subject area (e.g., math) until you pass the current level.

GRADING SCALE A = 5.0 points 90 – 100% B = 4.0 pts. 89 – 80% C = 3.0 pts. 79 – 70 % D = 2.0 pts. 69 – 60% F = 0 pts. Below 60%

Grade Point Average (GPA) Each semester grade is assigned a point value: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, F=0 Add all of the points together and divide by the number of courses taken that semester. Exception: Driver’s Ed and PE-ATH are not used in calculating GPA Bonus points for Honors Classes Add .02 to a semester grade of A, B, or C We calculate GPA every semester.
