Why Do People Err? It is an indisputable fact that there is much religious division. All cannot be right. For instance, “Baptism is sprinkling/Baptism is immersion.” For there to be “right,” there must be a standard: 2 Timothy 3: 16, 17, 2 John 9-11. Hence, all that does not conform to this standard is error.

Erring from the truth is serious: Why Do People Err? Erring from the truth is serious: “19: Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 20: Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins: (Jas. 5).

Some provided answers: Why Do People Err? Some provided answers: Cannot understand the Bible. Spirit reveals different truths. Creeds justifiably interpret differently. Different cultures see differently. Levels of intelligence.

Two common causes for error: Why Do People Err? Two common causes for error: “29: Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God” (Matt. 22).

Why Do People Err? 1. Because they “…know not the scriptures.”

Why Do People Err? 2. Because they “…know not the power of God.”

Why Do People Err? Conclusion: The causes for religious error are precisely the same today and also involve the same serious consequences (John 8: 32, 4: 24, 2 John 9-11).
