Challenges and opportunities of tourism Cath O’Brien Manager, Regulatory Affairs

We’ve been busy 8M seats to and from regional New Zealand in FY18 Air New Zealand operates to 20 New Zealand destinations We operate a hub and spoke network – pulling passengers into key hubs and dispersing them onto the regional network and beyond Regionally connected 8M seats to and from regional New Zealand in FY18 340 flights to regional New Zealand every day

Economic value of tourism Tourists carried by Air New Zealand spent $12.7 billion in New Zealand in the year ended March 2018. International tourists spent $3.8 billion Domestic tourists spent $8.8 billion 22,535 tourism and tourism-related business operate across New Zealand These business employ 230,800 workers directly

Tourism is not immune to risk Tourism needs to protect its social license to operate Tourism infrastructure is shared with local populations – airports, roading, car parking, and access to natural attractions Local councils with a low rating base service large visitor populations. We want to avoid the visitor experience being one of congestion and inadequacy – we want our visitors to return. It is up to industry to work together to ensure we manage infrastructure risk in partnership with local and central government.

Infrastructure challenge at arrival hubs Airport congestion Auckland – necessary construction will impact all users Queenstown – noise boundary issues may affect growth Many airports in New Zealand are planning for capital investment – we need to work closely with airports to ensure customer needs are met Land transport links to hub airports are critical so that visitors can arise and easily disperse

Growth brings opportunity - GIS Air New Zealand has been working in partnership with Tairāwhiti Gisborne over the past 18 months, working to develop the tourism proposition on the East Coast We believe this is untapped growth - seat growth into GIS is 32% in the last five years Government last week made major announcements on new investment into Tairāwhiti in roading, airport infrastructure, and tourism. Rental vehicle presence associated with this port has the opportunity to lean into growth.

We’re all in this together For many of our customers, their customer journey includes travel by rental cars in New Zealand We are interested in making sure it is easy for customers to access rental cars at New Zealand ports We welcome efforts from the RVA to ensure the customer journey is seamless and well supported by infrastructure investment
