Horsham and Mid Sussex People and Places West Sussex JSNA 2018 233,500 There has been a 10.6% increase in the last 10 years, due to natural growth (more births than deaths) & inward migration Residents (2016) Disability Free Life Expectancy (DFLE) Births Age Structure 2,535 Horsham and Mid Sussex CCG has an older age structure compared with England, 20% of residents are aged 65+ yrs (England 18%) England Horsham & Mid Sx For men & women, Horsham and Mid Sussex has amongst the highest DFLE in the country (ranked 7th best for men, 8th best for women). Deaths 2,044 Best Quartile Horsham and Mid Sussex, overall, is a healthy place to live and grow! frequently in the best 25% of all areas on a range of childhood measures known to have an impact on longer term health and wellbeing, including… ONS 2010-2012 Getting better all the time Top Places to Live, Work & Retire Teenage conceptions already low – have continued to fall to the point of there being only 30 conceptions across the whole of Horsham & Mid Sussex local authority areas in 2016. One of the lowest child poverty rates in the country at 7.3% compared with a national rate of 18.1% and STP area rate of 13.9%. Towns in West Sussex are frequently featured in national surveys and rated as top places people choose to live, retire or work….and the county has some of the sunniest places in the UK! Deaths (under 75 years) from cardiovascular disease (including heart disease and stroke) Have fallen over last 10 years - Horsham (LA) and Mid Sussex (LA) have some of the lowest rates in the country. Low rate of childhood obesity, 4th lowest (11.9%) of all CCGs in the country in relation to 10/11 year olds. Pressures on Working Age Reduce health inequalities and LTCs Disability Free Life Expectancy is good….. 46,000 people aged 65+ & rising…projected to increase to over 53,000 within 5 years Male 69.1 years Female 69.4 years But there will be with increasing numbers of people with long term health conditions…..currently Older people a great asset! Over 22,000 carers…and over 5,000 are aged 65 or over Over 33,000 with hypertension Over 10,000 with diabetes Over 3,000 with COPD Over 5,000 with Atrial Fibrillation Large number of older people live alone (over 11,000 65+ year olds in 2011) Need to support long term conditions, including support for self-management) and also….. ….. and maximise prevention opportunities
