Prerequisites Melete 3.0

Prerequisites Instructors can flag sections as a prerequisite prior to students accessing further items. Allows instructors to guide students through the sequence of sections and learning modules based on their meeting required prerequisites: Confirm that learners have viewed content sections prior to granting access further modules or sections. Confirm that learners have completed required tasks: assignment, discussion topic, or assessment.

Set Prerequisites In this case, students have to go through each section in order – view content and complete required tasks prior to gaining access to the next.

Or, allow free movement across sections, with exceptions, as needed When a section is flagged as a prerequisite, nothing below it can be accessed, regardless of start/stop dates, until the section is completed (viewed or submitted).

Business Rules… Authors can edit or delete a task at any time. Instructors can check/uncheck a prerequisite flag for a section (content/task) at any time. If user is done with a task (has submitted topic, assignment, or test) or has viewed a content section, item is flagged as ‘done,’ and user is allowed to access next section. Note: Access to sections based on performance (score or points), as opposed to completion of tasks, is a requirement that we’ll explore implementing in the future.

Navigation Changes Melete 3.0

Student View - Navigation If users must complete one or more tasks/sections in a module prior to proceeding, a checkmark is shown in the student view – alerting students to the prerequisite.

Student View - Expanded (From the table of contents expanded view, students can see at a glance all modules and their sections and sub-sections, including any prerequisites)

Student View - Expanded If a module is set as a prerequisite, users must complete all of its sections and sub-sections, but they can do them in any order (highlighted in soft yellow)

Student View – Module The default module view is expanded, so that students can see immediately the sections and sub-sections of a module.

Student View – Section Students can see their current location (section or subsection) and can navigate to previous and next, or return to the table of contents and view another module.

New “Manage” & Settings Functionality Melete 3.0

Manage >> Recycle Bin Allows instructors to delete modules (and their associated resources, if not linked with other sections/modules) permanently from their site.

Select items to remove permanently from one’s site. Recycle Bin Select items to remove permanently from one’s site.

Upload Files Helper Enables authors to upload ten files at a time into their site’s uploads storage (Melete Docs) area to be available during authoring (in sections or in editor).

Preferences (new menu) These are ‘global’ preferences and affect Melete in all sites of a user.

Notification (MyWorkspace Preference) Users can set email notifications in Preferences of MyWorkspace. When updating Melete content, authors can choose no notification, low-level notification, or high-priority if the changes are critical to site members.

“Import from Site” Support

Other Remove “next steps” (handled by tasks) Revise navigation in add/edit section screens to match new navigation scheme. IMS CP Import/Export needs to be redone, as Melete will now use content hosting. Remove current sort functions. Implement ability to ‘move’ sections and modules.
