Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Lab

Q: What do photosynthesis and respiration have in common? A: Photosynthesis and respiration are complementary processes that both involve carbon dioxide, water, glucose and oxygen, and this is what they have in common.  Essentially, they are the same reactions, although the reactions occur in reverse. Photosynthesis converts water and carbon dioxide into glucose and oxygen, while respiration converts glucose and oxygen into carbon dioxide and water. 

Q: Why do seeds produce carbon dioxide? A: Seeds alone that are inactive do not produce carbon dioxide, but once they start germinating then carbon dioxide is produced. Once seeds begin the process of germination, they are respiring. The seeds use oxygen from the air to use up the food supply stored in the seed. In this process, carbon dioxide is given out. As the food is used, energy is given out that the seeds need to germinate and start to grow.
