Satellite NO2 Monitoring over the Oil Sands Region (video) Oils Sands Region One of the tools we have applied to the OS under JOSM to understand spatial and temporal trends in air pollutant emissions and levels in air is satellite remote sensing. Yesterday, we had a poster that showed some of the results from this work. Here is a video showing the trend in NO2 levels over the oil sands region from 2005 to 2013. 2 year running average from Oct 2005 to May 2013. The area directly west of Edmonton has 4 power generation stations. The smallest was shut down in 2010 and the combined emissions from all of the stations is reduced by 20% from 2006 emissions.
