Please write the following notes into your composition book. Real Number system Please write the following notes into your composition book. Lesson 4-7

So, Natural + Whole + Integers + Rational + Irrational = REAL NUMBERS Remember the families of numbers: Natural, Whole, Integers, Rational and now…… IMPORTANT So, Natural + Whole + Integers + Rational + Irrational = REAL NUMBERS

Name the sets of numbers to which each real number belongs: Natural, Whole, integer, rational or irrational. Since 21/7 = 3, this is a natural number, whole number an integer, and a rational number. Since -2.5 = -5/2, this is a rational number. Since 0.2 = 0.22222222…..or 2/9, this number is a rational number. Since = 6.16441400…..it is not a square root of a perfect square so it is IRRATIONAL!

IMPORTANT

Ordering Real Numbers:

Solving square roots within an equation…….Please take note!!

A few practice problems……. Name the family of numbers each belong to: Order the following from GREATEST to LEAST: Solve for the variable:

Build the table below and check the appropriate box for each number.   Number Real Rational Irrational Integer Whole Natural 1 -6 2 3 4

Build the table below and check the appropriate box for each number.   Number Real Rational Irrational Integer Whole Natural 1 -6  x x  2 3 4
