Overview of school Catholic girls school, Multi-cultural, decile 1 Numbers of students studying Mathematics Year students Year 10 – 151 students Year 11 – 153 students Year 12 – 93 students out of 109 Year 13 – 62 students out of 105

Mathematics Department 6 members, plus 1 SMT 4 classrooms and 1 computer room (30 computers) Year 9 (SNP), this year we have 51.8% of Year 9 students working below Level 3 at the beginning of the year. Year 10 – no achievement standards offered Fully supportive deans, SMT and BOT Any reassessments are done afterschool, including any additional teaching and learning that needs to be done prior to the reassessment.

Maths Club is run throughout the year, for most of the year this is one day between 3.30 to 5pm. During Term 3 and 4 this runs twice a week. If students gain less than 10 credits at Level 1 then they repeat Year 11 Mathematics, this year if they gained between 10 and 14 credits then they had an extra maths class put on their timetable. This extra class runs on Monday afternoon from 3.30 – 5pm; students must turn up until they have gained enough credits. Parents are informed of this situation, deans and form teachers also are aware and know to keep reminding students of the need to come to these extra classes. Once they have the necessary credits then the extra maths class is removed from their timetable. Individual students are tracked very closely by classroom teachers and HOD.

Course design Decisions around course design are made by whole department. As a department the first year we run any new course we try and be as reflective and flexible as possible. If this means we have to go to plan B half way through the year then that is what happens.

Year 11 3 different courses. Students selected based on their grades throughout Year 10. Numeracy Unit Standards offered as part of our ASDAN class. Students are selected into this class by the Deputy Principal in charge of curriculum (approximately 10 students each year).

11MAA – top students Overview: 22 Level 1 credits offered; course endorsement; 10 internal, 12 external. Achievement Standards offered in course (1.13)– Investigate a situation involving elements of chance (3 credits, Lit) (1.12)– Investigate a given multivariate data set using the statistical enquiry cycle (4 credits, Lit) (1.7)– Apply right angled triangles in solving measurement problems (3 credits) (1.6)– Apply geometric reasoning in solving problems (4 credits) (1.2)– Apply algebraic methods in solving problems (4 credits) (1.3)– Investigate relationships between tables, equations or graphs (4 credits)

11MAT – middle band students Overview: 21 Level 1 credits offered; course endorsement; 17 internal, 4 external. Achievement Standards offered in course (1.7)– Apply right angled triangles in solving measurement problems (3 credits) (1.1)– Apply numeric reasoning in solving problems (4 credits) (1.13)– Investigate a situation involving elements of chance (3 credits, Lit) (1.10)– Investigate a given multivariate data set using the statistical enquiry cycle (4 credits, Lit) (1.4)– Apply linear algebra in solving problems (3 credits) (1.2)– Apply algebraic methods in solving problems (4 credits) Extension topic if time (1.5)– Apply measurement in solving problems (3 credits)

11MAP – students who need further support in mathematics Overview: 17 Level 1 credits offered; no course endorsement 17 internal. Achievement Standards offered in course (1.1)– Apply numeric reasoning in solving problems (4 credits) (1.4)– Apply linear algebra in solving problems (3 credits) (1.5)– Apply measurement in solving problems (3 credits) (1.13)– Investigate a situation involving elements of chance (3 credits, Lit) (1.10)– Investigate a given multivariate data set using the statistical enquiry cycle (4 credits, Lit)

Year 12 courses 2 separate courses. students are allowed to take both Statistics and Mathematics. 5 students have chosen to do both in MAT – entry is restricted to those students who have 14 Level 1 Mathematics credits including AS91027(MCAT) 12STA – entry is restricted to those students who have 14 Level 1 Mathematics credits.
