Accelerated Programs for High School Students Studies show that students who complete a solid academic program in high school, including advanced courses, are more likely to be successful in college. Examples of acceleration mechanisms include the following: International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program http://www.ibo.org Dual Enrollment and Early Admission http://www.fldoe.org/articulation/pdf/dualenrollfaqs.pdf Advanced Placement (AP) Program http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/about.html The Florida Virtual School (FLVS) offers students access to Advanced Placement (AP) courses http://www.flvs.net

College and Career Readiness What Does “College and Career Ready” Mean? Students are college and career ready when they have the knowledge, skills, and academic preparation needed to enroll and succeed in introductory college credit-bearing courses within an associate or bachelor level degree program without the need for remedial courses.

Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) is Florida's customized common placement test. The purpose of the P.E.R.T. is accurate course placement based on the student's skills and abilities. The P.E.R.T. is aligned with the Postsecondary Readiness Competencies identified by Florida faculty as necessary for success in entry-level college credit coursework. The P.E.R.T. assessment system includes Placement and Diagnostic tests in mathematics, reading and writing.

Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) The (P.E.R.T.) Placement is administered to students in public high schools and Florida College System institutions to determine readiness for Intermediate Algebra, MAT 1033, and Freshman Composition I, ENC 1101. The P.E.R.T. assessment is a computer adaptive test (C.A.T.) with 25 operational items that will be the basis of the student's placement score and five (5) field test items which are designed to continuously enhance the operational test bank.

Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) Mathematics Lower Level Developmental Education Scores of 50-95 Higher Level Developmental Education Scores of 96-113 Intermediate Algebra (MAT 1033) Scores of 114 -122 College Algebra or higher (MAC 1105) Scores of 123-150 *114 is the college-ready cut score for mathematics.

TYPICAL BACHELOR’S DEGREE(4 years) A typical bachelor's degree is 120 semester hours. Some will be as long as 150 semester hours but not many. The typical class is 3 semester hours of credit which just means that it meets 3 hours per week for a semester. Some classes such as labs (sciences) and activities (PE, band, newspaper) are 1 semester hour credit. Some colleges combine the science class and its lab into a 4-5 credit hour combination. At three hours per course for 120 hours, you'd need roughly 40 courses. A full-time student takes 12-18 hours (4-6 courses) per semester. The typical/average number is 15 hours (5 courses) per semester. With a 15 hour per semester class-load, a bachelor's degree of 120 hours would take exactly 8 semesters. Freshman Sophmore Junior Senior TOTAL Fall 15 Spring 15 120 Semester Hours
