Outdoor Pursuits: Program Description Outdoor Pursuits is an intensive one year program. The primary aim of the program is to develop student abilities so that they may competently enter the outdoor education / guiding industry with appropriate certification and experience. The program begins in the winter semester and culminates the following fall semester. SEQUENCE OF COURSES Outdoor Pursuits 25 Outdoor Pursuits credit CTS option course: ODPU 25 (grade 11 + select grade 10s with prior experience) Semester II (Feb.- June) ODPU 35 (ODL 25 Grads) Semester I (Sept – Jan.)

Outdoor Pursuits 25 Field Trips 3 Day Winter Skills / Backcountry Ski Trip Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 Certification Wilderness First Aid 24 hour Certification 4 Day Backpacking Trip 2-3 Day trips (AST Course, First Aid Course, Navigation Course)

ODPU 25 Course Description Outdoor Pursuits 25 (ODPU 25) Prerequisite: An interest in outdoor activities with the willingness to spend multiple days and nights in the wilderness. Grade 11 students have registration priority however; if spots are available grade 10 students may submit an application to the Outdoor Pursuits teacher for early admittance. Course Fee: $ Fees include: (wilderness first aid certification, avalanche skills training level 1 certification, transportation, permits, guiding costs and all trip expenses) Fee does not include: (individual gear and food) Content: Outdoor Pursuits 25 is a 7 credit course designed for students interested in exploring human powered outdoor activities. Students will gain wilderness experience and environmental awareness along with an opportunity for certification in Wilderness First Aid (24hrs) and Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (16hrs). Students will have the chance to learn through experience as multiple multi-day trips and day excursions make up a significant portion of this course. Modules: WLD 1130 Outdoor Survival Skills WLD 1100 Outdoor Cooking 1- Theory WLD 2100 Outdoor Cooking 2- Practical WLD 2950 Wilderness Practicum- Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 HES 2010First Aid / CPR- Remote Wilderness Responder (24hr) WLD 1060Wilderness Navigation WLD 2130Outdoor Excursion

Outdoor Pursuits 35 Trips 3-4 Day River Canoe / Swift Water Rescue Trip 5-6 Day Backpacking Expedition 2 Day Leadership Trip (Leading Jr. High Students) 3-4 Day Wilderness Survival Trip

ODPU 35 Course Description Outdoor Pursuits 35 (ODPU 35) Prerequisite: Outdoor Pursuits 25 (70% average over 5 modules) Course Fee: $ Fees include: (wilderness first aid (40 hr) certification, transportation, permits, guiding costs and all trip expenses) Fees does not include: (individual gear and food) Content: Outdoor Pursuits 35 is a 5 credit course designed for students to be involved in advanced wilderness skills development with the opportunity for practical leadership training and a certification in Wilderness First Aid (40hr). Guiding, technical and leadership skills along with global environmental awareness are the main focuses.
