Learning Targets for Introduction to Physics Unit 1.1

How are scientific questions answered? Essential Question How are scientific questions answered?

Questions should be answered using a safe systematic approach. Big Idea Questions should be answered using a safe systematic approach.

You Should Know: Scientific questions are testable. There is a systematic approach to scientific investigation. Hypotheses are testable and are tentative based on observed data. Theories are well-established and highly-reliable explanations, but are subject to change. Laws are generalizations, principles, or patterns in nature derived from scientific facts.

You should be able to: Distinguish between hypotheses and theory and law. Demonstrate appropriate safety practices during lab investigations. Formulate testable hypotheses. Communicate valid conclusions supported by data.
