Describe Tom's internal conflict in Contents of a Dead Man's Pocket Describe Tom's internal conflict in Contents of a Dead Man's Pocket. Use details from the story to back up your opinion. (1) Without conflicts the world would be a boring place. (2)In Jack Finney's short story, Contents of a Dead Man's Pocket, (3)Tom faces an interior dilemma or conflict.

(4)Tom's internal conflict deals with the guilt that he feels over not spending time with his wife. The reader can see this conflict through both Tom's actions and his feelings. As his wife leaves for the theatre, Finney says that Tom felt hot and therefore opened the window. This shows that he felt guilty. Also, while Tom was out on the ledge, he realizes that he has been wasting his life. As Tom gets back into his apartment, he deals with his interior conflict by leaving his work to join his wife at the theatre. (5) Tom’s interior conflict puts life into the story and gives the story a resolution at the ending.
