INTRODUCTION TO THE SKELETAL SYSTEM MAJOR BONES OF THE BODY

Warm Up On your notecard, please list as many of the bones of the body as you can. (please do not refer to your planner!!)

THINK Question #1 What is the skeletal system?? A system of the body that is made up of ___ bones, helps with ________, and also _______ and _________ the body.

THINK Question #2 How many bones of the body are there? 206

THINK Question #3 Why do we have a skeletal system? Gives us form and shape, support Helps aid in movement

THINK Question #4 Refer to our fitness unit and investigate another major reason we have a skeletal system. (HINT: think of what the engine of our body is and the importance it has to survival. ) Protects our major organs

Skeletal System A system of the body that is made up of 206 bones, helps with movement, and also supports and protects the body.

Small Groups Find others in the class with the same symbol that you have on your notecard. Please sit at a table with your group.

Labeling our model skeleton! think / pair / share Take a few minutes with your group to see if you can figure out where the name of the bones that you have would go on our model. Please practice announcing each word to the best of your ability.

Homework!! Please study the words that you will be given in a few minutes for a SPELLING QUIZ next class.
