Fifth Grade Falcons Week of: August, 27-31, 2018 Open House Monday -8/27 for 6th – 8th Grade @ 6pm Open House Tuesday -8/28 for PK - 5th Grade @ 6pm Aug. 31 Spirit Shirts – Orders due Sept. 3 – No School – Labor Day Fractions I can read, write, and say decimal fractions in standard, word, expanded and unit forms I can compare and order decimal fractions using <, >, and = Test on Friday, August 31st - All Fraction skills taught to date (Lessons 1-6) Novel: The Birchbark House I can analyze character interactions I can interpret figurative language I can use text evidence in my response I can use context clues to determine meaning I can identify theme Grade – In class work assignments. Science: Matter - I can identify chemical and physical changes. I can identify the law of conservation of mass. Grades will come from in class labs and activities. Students will have a quiz on Friday. Social Studies: Characteristics of Civilizations - I can describe the origins, characteristics, and expansion of indigenous cultures and groups that existed in the Americas prior to European exploration. I can analyze maps and artifacts to determine religious, social, cultural, and political characteristics of the Aztec, Maya, Inca, and Native North American civilizations. I can produce writing to explain why the Aztec, Maya, and Inca are civilizations. Grades will come from in class activities, which will include a writing assignment this week.  Narrative Writing I can use the writing process I can understand and write compound sentences Test folders come home on Wednesdays. Please make sure your child has needed supplies.
