MMG101 Online Module Teacher's Manual Bell Ringer What are the four steps to asking for help? Review the answers to the Online Reinforcement activity. What are the four steps to asking for help? Problem, Person, Process, Polite   Recount a time you asked for help and the results of asking were positive. © Copyright, 2015. Johns Hopkins University. All Rights Reserved. (C) Copyright, 2015. MMG101 Online Module Teacher's Manual Role Play Practicing the Skill Divide participants into three groups. Refer students back to Module Reader # 1: How to Give Constructive Feedback (the three scenarios are also projected on the screen). Assign one scenario to each team. (You may want to add additional scenarios so that each team discusses a different scenario). Ask students to prepare a role play that uses the three steps. © Copyright, 2015. MMG101 Online Module Teacher's Manual Giving Feedback After each team shares its role play, initiate a whole class discussion. Did the role-play follow the three steps? Was this feedback constructive? Was there anything destructive in the way feedback was given? How did the person being corrected feel after the conversation? Could anything have been improved? Review the Module Worksheet: Constructive Criticism T-Chart. Ask students if they feel more prepared now to give constructive feedback or criticism. If you would like to provide additional practice for your students in this skill, choose one of the Bell Ringer examples volunteered earlier in the lesson. Ask another student to “play this scene over” in a constructive way. Then ask the first student if he or she feels differently now. Why or why not? What made the difference? Did he or she feel more willing to change his or her behavior when the feedback was constructive? © Copyright, 2015. Johns Hopkins University. All Rights Reserved. (C) Copyright, 2015. MMG101 Online Module Teacher's Manual Your friend Ahmed plays basketball on the school team. Sometimes he gets too aggressive during games and loses his temper. During the last game, he shoved another player, and the coach made him sit out the rest of the game. Ahmed acted like he wasn’t sorry, but you think he really missed playing. What would you say to him to encourage him to keep cool on the court and not foul out? Close the module by having students write their responses to the following situation using the steps for constructive criticism © Copyright, 2015. Johns Hopkins University. All Rights Reserved.
