University of Maryland DYMAFLEX SHOT II Post-Flight Presentation July 1, 2012
Summary Goal: Receive packets to analyze packet loss with the satellite link margin Test preliminary satellite software and C&DH configuration Began receiving packets immediately after power on of payload Received packets for the duration of the flight, with some exceptions Began recording packets with the ground station shortly after balloon released Temperatures looked accurate throughout flight
Temperature Data
Packet Loss Analysis 207 total packets sent, recorded 129 packets First 42 not recorded due to ground station setup delay 26 dropped during communications loss 3 dropped during anomalous behavior 7 other unexplained dropped packets 3.38% of packets dropped Unable to determine accurate cause of anomalous packets drops due to lack of sensor data from the payload Packet drops possibly caused by: Low temperatures Condensation Neil Patrick Harris on a Unicorn (Pegasus?)
Flight Anomalies Lost contact with payload during descent at ~24,000 ft Contact regained at ~10,000 ft Attempted to transmit command to payload During this portion, could not record received packets, accounting for 2 dropped packets Changed log files to make sure logging was correct, allowing a packet to be dropped Temperature consistency Temperature remained static at -5.84°C for some portions of flight Repeated packet Contained anomalous data: odd temperature data and static time stamp
Future Testing Input voltage monitoring Internal logging Uplink commands Fully tested ground station Thermal protection on C&DH 9600 baud RF Stream protocol testing
