Meditation Luke 1:26-33 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

*Call to Worship Based on Luke 1 One:  The angel told Mary how Jesus was to be conceived, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.  Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.”

Many: “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered Many:  “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. Lord Jesus, may we, too, be your servants. We worship, adore and welcome you into our hearts again and again.

Come Thou Long Expected Jesus *Opening Hymn Come Thou Long Expected Jesus Hymnal #196 Used By Permission. CCLI License # 11148194

Come, thou long expected Jesus,  born to set thy people free;  from our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee.  Israel's strength and consolation, hope of all the earth thou art; dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart.

Born thy people to deliver,  born a child and yet a King,  born to reign in us forever,  now thy gracious kingdom bring. By thine own eternal spirit rule in all our hearts alone; by thine all sufficient merit, raise us to thy glorious throne.

*Opening Prayer Hymnal #199 The Glory of the Lord shall be revealed; all flesh shall see it together. My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, who has looked with favor on me, a lowly servant.

From this day all generations shall call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me and holy is the name of the Lord, whose mercy is on those who fear God from generation to generation. The arm of the Lord is strong, and has scattered the proud in their conceit.

God has cast down the mighty from their thrones and lifted up the lowly. God has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich empty away. God has come to the aid of Israel, the chosen servant, remembering the promise of mercy, the promise made to our forebears, to Abraham and his children for ever.

The Glory of the Lord shall be revealed; all flesh shall see it together.

O Morning Star, how fair and bright  thou beamest forth in truth and light, O Sovereign meek and lowly!  Thou Root of Jesse, David's Son,  my Lord and Master, thou has won  my heart to serve thee solely!  Thou art holy, fair and glorious, all-victorious, rich in blessing,  rule and might o'er all possessing.

Light divine! O deep within my heart now shine, and make thee there an altar!  fill me with joy and strength to be  thy member, ever joined to thee  in love that cannot falter;  toward thee longing doth possess me; turn and bless me; here in sadness eye and heart long for thy gladness.

What joy to know, when life is past, the Lord we love is first and last, the end and the beginning! He will one day, O glorious grace, transport us to that happy place beyond all tears and sinning! Amen! Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! Crown of gladness, we are yearning for the day of your returning.

Scripture Reading Psalm 146:5-10 5Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God, 6who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever; 7who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; 8the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous.

Scripture Reading Psalm 146:5-10 9 The Lord watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. 10 The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord!

The Message Blessed is…

Hail to the Lord’s Annointed *Hymn Hail to the Lord’s Annointed Hymnal #203 Used By Permission. CCLI License # 11148194

Hail to the Lord's Anointed, great David's greater Son! Hail in the time appointed, his reign on earth begun! He comes to break oppression, to set the captive free; to take away transgression, and rule in equity.

He comes with succor speedy to those who suffer wrong; to help the poor and needy, and bid the weak be strong; to give them songs for sighing, their darkness turn to light, whose souls, condemned and dying, are precious in his sight.

He shall come down like showers upon the fruitful earth; love, joy, and hope, like flowers, spring in his path to birth. Before him on the mountains, shall peace, the herald, go, and righteousness, in fountains, from hill to valley flow.

To him shall prayer unceasing and daily vows ascend; his kingdom still increasing, a kingdom without end. The tide of time shall never his covenant remove; his name shall stand forever; that name to us is love.
