Year 6 Routines and Expectations

With Jesus we learn together through faith and love Our Mission Statement With Jesus we learn together through faith and love

Behaviour We follow the traffic light system throughout the school to promote positive behaviour amongst children.

Please follow the school uniform policy which can be found on the school website. Children should bring their book bags to school everyday – no rucksacks. Children are allowed to bring in a water bottle – please make sure they do. Bottles should be clear and should have a sports cap – no ice (condensation)..

Soft Start Children will come straight to class in the mornings. This time will be used to read, practice spellings or timetables or answer any problems I have left on the board. Time for children to pass on any messages to the teacher. Problems with homework. Morning prayer and time for reflection.

Prayer Life in the School Children will start and end their school day with a prayer or quiet reflection. Children attend weekly assemblies and hymn practice for collective worship. Throughout the year, children will attend regular masses at church, to celebrate regular feast days. (All parents are welcome). Class assemblies

Curriculum and Assessment

Awards Reward assembly is on Fridays where children receive certificates for their hard work. Children are awarded extra play on Friday for completing and handing in their home work on time and also signing their reading records everyday.

Homework Monday Tuesday Wednesd -ay Thursday Friday CGP study/ question books Spelling Literacy or Maths

Homework Expectations Neat presentation Date and Title underlined Completed using a handwriting pen for English and pencil for maths. If your child’s homework is not handed in, they will complete it the following day during break.

Homework support Children should try to complete their homework independently. If they do require support it would be helpful if you could use a different colour pen to show the support you gave. If children are spending more than 45mins on their homework then they need to speak to the teacher the following day for support. Please check that homework has been completed to a high standard and sign their homework diaries daily. If you have a short message that you would like to pass on these can be written in your child’s homework diary.

Reading Children are expected to read every day and it needs to be signed in their homework diaries every day. It is very beneficial for children to be listened to by an adult; however they may read independently, but understanding will still need to be checked. The bookmarks give some example questions that you could ask to check understanding. If your child's homework diary is not signed, they will miss 10 minutes during extra play to make up for that time.

P.E. P.E. kits should be brought in every Monday morning and brought home every Friday to be washed. Swimming for Year 5 is now on a Monday. If children are attending a club please ensure P.E. kits are returned the next day. All items of clothing need to be labelled.

Collection Please wait near the gate next to the hall for collection. Please fill in the form with names of people who are likely to collect your child from school. Inform the office if someone different is going to collect your child.

Contact Please ensure that all of your contact details are up to date at the school office and please notify them of any changes If you need to discuss anything important please wait until all the children have been collected after school or send a note in with your child. Mornings are very busy so please contact the office. Please let the office know if your child has to attend any dental or other appointments. The teacher will need to speak to you at the end of the day if your child has been on the red traffic light during the day.
