War Time In Galway At 11:15 on the 3rd of September 1939, Mr. chamberlain made a speech about declaring war on Germany. Every hour the radio announced the news. In the first years of the war the army increased by 6 or 7 times. By early summer 1940 numbers had doubled again. These new recruits had to be trained and this put a major restrain on army resources.
