Fraction: A bottom part name denominator telling you how many parts the whole is divided into and the top part is call numerator telling you have many.
Working with Percentages. Writing percentages as fractions ‘Percent’ means ‘out of 100’. To write a percentage as a fraction we write it over a hundred.

Lesson 3.1.3 Day 2 – Teacher Notes Standard: Preparation for 6.NS.3 Operations with decimals. Chapters 5 and 7 – Multiplying and dividing decimals Lesson Focus: Focus is still to show relationships between forms of numbers. (4-41 and 4-42) I can convert among fractions, decimals, and percents. Calculator: No Literacy/Teaching Strategy: Swapmeet

BELLWORK

3-45.  An article in the local paper states that 30% of the students at Oak Grove Middle School earned a place on the Silver Honor Roll.  If there are 920 students at Oak Grove, how many are on the Silver Honor Roll?  Use a percent ruler to help you decide.  Show all of your work.

3-46. Given the following descriptions of portions, write each portion as a percent. Use a 100% block to help you visualize the portions. 3-46 HW eTool (CPM). Homework Help ✎ 3 tenths and 6 hundredths 8 hundredths 17 hundredths 11 tenths

3-47. Maurice's gas tank can hold 60 liters of gas 3-47. Maurice's gas tank can hold 60 liters of gas. On your paper, copy and label the percent ruler below. Then use it to find how many liters are in the tank when it is: 50% full 7 10 full 2 5 full

3-48. Which of the following fractions could you add together easily 3-48. Which of the following fractions could you add together easily?  Explain.

3-49. Alex earns $7. 75 a day by walking dogs for his neighbors 3-49. Alex earns $7.75 a day by walking dogs for his neighbors. If he walks dogs for 12 days, how much money will he make? Show how you got your answer.

p. 106 Day 2 3-40 to 3-42

3-42. GUESS MY DECIMAL Maya and Logan invented a new game called “Guess My Decimal.” One of them thinks of a decimal and gives the other a clue to solve for the mystery decimal. Logan begins the game by saying, “First, I think of the 100% block as a one block so I can make a decimal instead of a percent. Then my decimal can be represented on the one block like this.” He pointed to the diagram at right. What is Logan’s decimal? It was Maya’s turn. She said, “My decimal is equivalent to 3 5 .” What is Maya’s decimal? Logan finishes the game with the following clue, “My decimal can be built by combining 0.38 and 0.04.” What is Logan’s decimal?

PRACTICE REVIEW OR Decimal  Percent: Multiply by 100 Move the Decimal 2 place to the RIGHT .81 x 100 = 81% . 8 1 = 8 . 1 = 81% OR Fraction  Percent: Write a proportion to find an equivalent fraction using 100 as the denominator. The numerator is the percent. 4 5 = 𝑥 100 4 5 𝑥 20 20 = 80 100 =80% Decimal Fraction: Use the digits in the decimal as the numerator. Use the decimal place value name as the denominator. Simplify as needed. 0.17= 17 100 0.2= 2 10 ÷ 2 2 = 1 5

PRACTICE REVIEW (cont.) 1 Percent  Decimal: Divide by 100 Move the Decimal 2 place to the LEFT 81% ÷ 100 = .81 81% = 8 1 . = 8 . 1 = .81 OR Percent  Fraction: Use 100 as the denominator. Use the percent as the numerator. Simplify as needed. 22%= 22 100 ÷ 2 2 = 11 50 56%= 56 100 ÷ 4 4 = 14 25 Fraction Decimal: Divide the numerator by the denominator. 3 8 =3÷8=0.375 3 11 =3÷11=0.2727
