School of Social Work, Texas State University Brown Scholarship School of Social Work, Texas State University This scholarship was established by the friends and colleagues of Dr. Karen Brown in recognition of her distinguished contributions to the School and to acknowledge her commitment to social work practice with vulnerable children and families. Eligibility: BSW student in good standing who is currently enrolled or formally admitted to the program during academic year 2017-18 (Note: This scholarship alternates annually between BSW and MSW students.) Award: One $1500 BSW scholarship for 2017-18 academic year Basic selection criteria: Applicant must show an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 as verified by official transcript provided by the SSW office Applicant must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA for the duration of the scholarship as verified by the SSW office Applicant must indicate a commitment to social work practice with vulnerable children and families by current interests and past activities Applicant must submit a resume indicting volunteer and/or work experience and a personal essay (two pages double-spaced) that includes two clearly articulated professional goals and addresses the above criteria Preferred selection criteria: Evidence of bi-lingual proficiency in Spanish or of substantial progress toward and a plan for becoming bi-lingual as demonstrated in the essay Evidence of financial need Evidence of a preference for policy practice on behalf of vulnerable children and families as demonstrated by the resume and essay Evidence of intention to apply for SW licensure upon graduation Application and submission: Submit application electronically to Ms. Hortencia Garza hh11@txstate.edu no later than Monday, May 1, 2017 by 5:00pm consisting of one document labelled as ScholarshipName.YourLastName. It should include 1) a cover letter addressed to the SSW Scholarship Committee, 2) a resume (TXST student ID number and email required), and 3) the essay.
