Stat Chat Advancing Recommendations for the Statistics Pathway Helen Burn Co-Chair, Washington Math Pathways to Completion 2-3 pm, March 2 and 9, 2018

Webinar on current issues with Math& 146 June 2017 Webinar on transfer issues with BIs July 2017 Convening to examine course objectives Aug 2017 Survey on course content recommendations Oct 2017 - agreement on need to do this - content areas identified were comprehensive - many missing broad understanding and study design - clarification wanted on probability, binomial theorem, hypothesis testing Math& 146 content recommendations circulated Nov 2017 Vetting and Professional Development - Stat Chat today Switched positions of recommendations 4 and 5 just for space issues on slides--

Today’s agenda 15 minutes – your thoughts on how to further advance/clarify content expectations around probability, binomial theorem, and hypothesis testing 20 minutes – Amber Mozeleski –Math& 146 at Tacoma Community College 20 minutes – discussion of co-requisite models The meeting will be recorded and forwarded to the math listserve. (page 4-5, handout): “why does this recommendation need to be implemented?” (e.g., How can it be clearer or more accurate? How might we make a stronger or more compelling case?)

Community Agreement Think of the system rather than your personal preference Engage someone’s idea before moving onto the next idea Evidence-based ideas over personal preference Feel free to submit ideas via email (page 4-5, handout): “why does this recommendation need to be implemented?” (e.g., How can it be clearer or more accurate? How might we make a stronger or more compelling case?)

Content Recommendations (page 4-5, handout): “why does this recommendation need to be implemented?” (e.g., How can it be clearer or more accurate? How might we make a stronger or more compelling case?)

Amber Mozeleski Tacoma Community College Selected because TCC’s Math& 146 contains all content areas, including “Big 5” hypothesis testing Prerequisite for the course is intermediate algebra that meets UW’s Math 98 expectation 10 minutes – describing the course 10 minutes – your questions (page 4-5, handout): “why does this recommendation need to be implemented?” (e.g., How can it be clearer or more accurate? How might we make a stronger or more compelling case?)

Co-requisite discussion Highline and other colleges are interested Benefits of building a consortium (quality and funding) We would be wise to engage co-requisites as a system 15 minutes – discussion 5 minutes – next steps (page 4-5, handout): “why does this recommendation need to be implemented?” (e.g., How can it be clearer or more accurate? How might we make a stronger or more compelling case?)

Thank you for your time and effort Stat Chat recording and meeting summary will be circulated Consider StatPREP workshop at Highline College June 15-16, 2018 statprep.org/seattletacoma Same time next week! (page 4-5, handout): “why does this recommendation need to be implemented?” (e.g., How can it be clearer or more accurate? How might we make a stronger or more compelling case?)
