Let’s go shopping! There are many reasons why the Liberals introduced their welfare reforms from 1906. We have looked at some of them, such as the rise of social reformers, already. You have £8 to spend in the ‘History Shop’ on the different reasons why the Liberals introduced welfare reforms. However, they are all at different prices and you cannot buy them all as all together they would cost more than £8. So which reasons would you buy and why? Complete your shopping list provided and write one reason why you chose it.

Shopping list Social reformers - £4 Growing information on poverty- £2 Influence of David Lloyd George- £2.50 Scale of poverty in Britain - £3 Influence of Winston Churchill - £2 The Boer War - £1 Political rivalry between Liberals and Conservatives - £2 An effective and efficient workforce - £2

Questions to consider Which factors did you choose and why? Why were some factors more expensive than others? Did you agree with the pricing of the factors? Would you have included any ‘special offers’, such as Buy One, Get One Free? Would this have changed your thinking?
