Keep a close track of your child’s social media accounts. Safer Internet Day 2019 Let’s create a better internet together. Social media, mostly accessed through apps on tablets and phones, is the biggest source of problems reported to us. Keep a close track of your child’s social media accounts.

What can parents do right now? Make it clear to children that you WON’T automatically delete accounts or remove devices if they tell you there’s a problem. Take a look at what your child is doing online, INCLUDING PSN and X-box Live. Ask them to SHOW you all their accounts.

What can parents do right now? Don’t assume that your child will be the VICTIM of poor online behaviour; they may be the PERPETRATOR.

What can parents do right now? Check your child’s social media accounts. Do it TODAY. If you don’t know their usernames and passwords, WHY don’t you know their usernames and passwords?

What can parents do right now? Learn about social media apps. Set your filters. www.internetmatters.org/parental-controls This site had step-by-step guides showing how to set up parental controls on every popular internet device, broadband provider and app Learn about social media apps. www.net-aware.org.uk/networks This site lists the thirty-eight most popular sites used by children. It describes their functions, reviews them, and rates them according to their risks in five categories: sexual, hatred, violence and bullying, suicide and self-harm, and drink, drugs and crime.
