1 - $100 What kind of chemical reaction always contains oxygen as a reactant and water as a product? Combustion

1 - $200 AB + C  AC is a general formula for what kind of reaction? Single displacement

1 - $300 A + B  AB is a general formula for what kind of reaction? Synthesis

1 - $400 A reaction in which two similar ions switch places is called a _________. Double displacement

1 - $500 A general formula for a decomposition reaction could be written as: AB  A + B

2 - $100 Identify the reaction: N2(g) + 3H2(g)  2NH3(g) Synthesis

2 - $200 Identify the reaction: 2H2(g) + O2(g)  2H2O(g) Combustion

2 - $300 Identify the reaction: Decomposition 2NaNO3(s)  2NaNO2(s) + O2(g) Decomposition

2 - $400 Identify the reaction: Single Displacement 2Al(s) + 3Pb(NO3)2(aq)  3Pb(s) + 2Al(NO3)3(aq) Single Displacement

2 - $500 Identify the reaction: Double Displacement FeS(s) + 2HCl(aq)  H2S(g) + FeCl2(aq) Double Displacement

3 - $100 Balance the following equation: 1, 3, 2 ____N2 + ____H2  ____NH3 1, 3, 2

3 - $200 Balance the following equation: 2, 1, 2, 1 ____NaCl + _____F2  ____NaF + ____Cl2 2, 1, 2, 1

3 - $300 ___C3H8 + ____O2  ___CO2 + ____H2O 1, 5, 3, 4

3 - $400 Balance the following equation: 1, 2, 2, 1 ____Pb(OH)2 + ____HCl  ____H2O + ____PbCl2 1, 2, 2, 1

3 - $500 Balance the following equation: 2, 25, 16, 18 ____C8H18 + ____O2  ____CO2 + ____H2O 2, 25, 16, 18

4 - $100 Balance the following equation: 2, 1, 2 ___H2 + ___O2  ___H2O 2, 1, 2

4 - $200 Balance the following equation: ____KClO3  ____KCl + ____O2 Type answer to appear with a mouse-click here

4 - $300 Balance the following equation: 1, 12, 8 ____S8 + ____O2  ____SO3 1, 12, 8

4 - $400 Balance the following equation: 1, 2, 1, 2 ___CH4 + ___O2  ____CO2 + ____H2O 1, 2, 1, 2

4 - $500 Balance the following equation: 2, 3, 6, 1 ____AlBr3 + ____K2SO4  ____KBr + ____Al2(SO4)3 2, 3, 6, 1

5 - $100 Viewing setbacks as a motivation to try harder is a characteristics of a person with a __________ mindset. Growth

5 - $200 When a solid is dissolved in water, we refer to the phase as “aqueous” or (aq). What role does water play in the reaction. Water does not participate in the reaction. It just the medium in which the reaction takes place.

5 - $300 The law of conservation of mass states that atoms cannot be created or destroyed, but rather are ___________ as a result of the chemical reaction. Rearranged

5 - $400 The law of conservation of mass states that the mass of the __________ and the mass of the ________ must be __________. Reactants, products, equal

5 - $500 The four indications of a chemical reaction are… 1. heat and light 2. gas produced 3. precipitate forms 4. color change

Final Jeopardy Why can we change the coefficients of a chemical equation and not the subscripts? Subscripts tell us how many of each atom make up the molecule. They tell us the IDENTITY of the molecule, which we cannot change. Coefficients tell us HOW MANY of each molecule are needed for an equation to be balanced and obey the law of conservation of mass.
