DegreeWorks is… DegreeWorks is a computerized, web-based degree audit program and academic advising tool that has been designed to assist students and their advisors in reviewing their progress toward graduation. DegreeWorks does not… … replace an official transcript OR … an advisor 4 The Office of the Registrar

DegreeWorks rearranges a students transcript, which SIMS organizes chronologically, and places the courses according to the degree requirements. The Office of the Registrar

What is the What-If audit? What-If audit allows advisors and students to process speculative degree audits for students using their current class history. Students can use this feature if they are thinking of changing their majors, minors and/or concentrations and would like to know how their course(s) will be applicable to their intended program. The Office of the Registrar

What is the What-If audit? What-If audits may be printed, but are not saved to the system. When selecting the requirement criteria for a What-If audit, it is important to select the Degree Program (ex. Bachelor of Arts) before selecting the Degree/Major combinations from the drop down list. Note: DegreeWorks reflects the requirements for the Undergraduate and Graduate Bulletins. not VERY IMPORTANT: The Office of the Registrar

What is the Planner? The Planner feature allows for a split screen look: The student's audit on the left The student's planner on the right Note: Students can only view (but not create and edit) these planned schedules. You can create a plan for your student for as many as six years. only view The Office of the Registrar

What is Notes? The Notes feature allows an advisor to add permanent notes of what was discussed with the student. The Notes feature allows an advisor to add, modify and delete notes. However, we strongly recommend that you do not delete or modify any notes. Once you have written your note: Click on Save Note button, then Audit Tab and click on Process New button for the Note to be immediately available for all to see. we strongly recommend that you do not delete or modify any notes The Office of the Registrar

What is the GPA Calculator? There are three different GPA calculators: Graduation Calculator Term Calculator Advice Calculator This functionality allows students and advisors the ability to calculate minimum grades needed to reach a target cumulative GPA. It can assist with the accurate mapping of student paths to achieving honors, avoiding probation, and/or satisfying personal academic aspirations. Graduation Calculator Term Calculator Advice Calculator The Office of the Registrar

What is the GPA Calculator? 1) Graduation Calculator: Gives students the GPA needed to achieve a desired GPA, based on their remaining number of credits and required number of credits. desired The Office of the Registrar

What is the GPA Calculator? 2) Term Calculator: Allows students to determine changes to overall GPA based on possible grade(s) for currently enrolled course(s). Students on probation, in honors programs or enrolled in programs where their GPA is critical, are especially recommended to use this calculator. The Office of the Registrar

What is the GPA Calculator? 3) Advice Calculator: This feature lists the number of credits and specific grades needed to achieve a desired GPA. desired The Office of the Registrar

What is Look Ahead? This feature allows students to view how a future course can be applied to their graduation requirements. This is similar to running a Planner audit (SEP). Students mostly use this feature because they do not have access to process audits from the Planner. The Office of the Registrar

What is Look Ahead? Look Ahead mode The Office of the Registrar

Other useful links in DegreeWorks Takes students to the CUNY Portal Login page. Frequently Asked Questions and Answers. Provides helpful links for students: Lehmans College Website, Registrars Homepage, Academic Advisement Appointments, etc. Print the Degree Audit. Log out from the DegreeWorks system.

How is DegreeWorks beneficial for students? It is a 24/7 program available via the Internet. Note: Compatible with Internet Explorer and Safari only. Students learn the degree requirements as well as being able to identify the courses they must complete in order to earn their degree. Students may view any holds/stops on their record. Students can estimate how many semesters it will take them to graduate. Students can experiment with potential Grade Point Average through the GPA calculator. The Office of the Registrar

No more He said/She said. DegreeWorks provides the same information to all students regarding their major requirements. PROVIDES CONSISTENT INFORMATION Reminder: The Notes feature on DegreeWorks allows advisors to place a note on the students audit. These notes can serve as a reminder to the student and be helpful to other advisors that might meet with the same student. What is in it for advisors? LESS PAPERWORK. The Office of the Registrar

Using DegreeWorks, and asking your students to review their audits before they meet with you, allows students to play an active role in the advising process. In addition, rather than just reviewing registration, you can spend more time talking about the students development, choices and future plans. ALLOWS FOR MORE MEANINGFUL ADVISEMENT SESSIONS What is in it for advisors? The Office of the Registrar

What can advisors do to help DegreeWorks function more efficiently? Make sure to review your students major audits; you are the experts. Provide clear information to students regarding the departments major requirements. Your suggestions for improvement are always welcome. ________________ The Office of the Registrar

The DegreeWorks advisement system tries its best to fit all of the In Progress (most recently registered) courses, sometimes moving other courses that previously fulfilled the requirements. For this reason, it is critical that users understand degree requirements. This issue should not be a cause for concern, as long as students are aware while planning their future registration(s). All courses will be properly applied during the official graduation review by the Graduation Auditors. Note: IMPORTANT REMINDER The Office of the Registrar
